Bagan Flight Information
The airport that serves the Bagan region, referred to as Nyaung U Airport (NYU 3-letter designation), is located just a few kilometres south of Nyaung U Town and about ten kilometres east of New and Old Bagan
A taxi from the airport to Nyaung U costs about 5000 Kyat (approximately 4 USD) or double that to New or Old Bagan
Some high-end hotels will include free pickup and drop off at the airport

Bagan Train Information
Bagan Railway Station is located a couple of kilometres south of the airport and taxi fares from the station are similar to the costs from the airport
Train from Yangon to Bagan
There is an overnight train that departs from Yangon at 4.00 pm and takes eighteen hours to travel the bone-jarring six hundred kilometres although often it can take even longer
Tickets for berths in the more comfortable upper-class sleeper carriage cost about 40 USD
Tickets for seats are available in 1st Class and Ordinary Class
1st Class seating is padded and there is more space for storage with tickets costing a little over 10 USD while tickets for an Ordinary Class seat cost just a few dollars and the comfort is equally low although here you will meet ‘ordinary’ Burmese and experience the true culture and friendship of the country
The train has a restaurant car that serves food and drinks
In the winter it can be quite cold at night so packing an extra layer of clothing is recommended
Train from Mandalay to Bagan
Two services each day (7.20am and 9.00pm) taking over eight hours to cover the 170 kilometres

Bagan Bus Information
The new Bagan Bus Station (known as the Shwe Pyi Highway Bus Station) is located between
the airport and train station

Overnight buses that depart in the early evening charge between 15 USD and 20 USD and take approximately 9 hours to reach Bagan
Bus from Mandalay to Bagan
Tickets cost about 10 USD and it takes about 6 hours to reach Bagan in either minibuses or coaches
Bagan Ferry Information
There are two boat options for travel between Mandalay and Bagan
The express boat is only relatively fast taking nine hours to reach Bagan although the views are pleasant
It leaves at 7.00am and costs about 40 USD
The slow boat takes about fifteen hours and departs at 5.00am costing about 10 USD
